Members will be sad to learn that, after going into hospital last Christmas, Ron Cross MBE, a well known umpire in Hampshire and a stalwart of Gosport Borough CC, passed away on 20th January 2021, aged 100.
Ron was a distinguished WW2 Veteran, and a former Occupational Therapist at RNH Haslar.
The Funeral Service will be held in St Luke’s Church at the former Royal Naval Hospital Haslar on Thursday 18th February 2021 commencing at 11:00 a.m.. After the service the Funeral Cortege will pass by Privett Park (home of Gosport Borough CC) on its way to Portchester Crematorium. There will be no service at Portchester Crematorium. Ron’s Ashes will then be held until they can be interred in the Memorial Grounds at the former Royal Naval Hospital Haslar when a Memorial Service can eventually be held.
The former Royal Naval Hospital Haslar is a most poignant place for Ron’s Funeral as he spent many years working there and there are also many items in St Luke’s Church which ‘bear his woodworking skills’.
Unfortunately, because of Covid Restrictions, the Funeral at St Luke’s will be a Family Gathering only with a representative from a few of the organisations ‘dear to Ron’s heart’. Ray Holyer will be attending, representing, amongst others, the RNCC and the cricket Umpiring/Scoring fraternity and he will also be undertaking the Eulogy for Ron.
Should you wish to send a condolence card to Ron’s family (wife Hazel, daughter Jayne and son Martyn) then the address is:
